The guiding question
Automated vehicles are the most visible case of a broader phenomenon: mobility technologies now evolve faster than municipal planning cycles. By the time a master plan reaches its horizon, the ecosystem that prompted it has already shifted. Waiting for clarity is not a strategy; betting on a single scenario isn’t one either.
My practice is organized around a methodical response to that tension: favour actions that create value across every scenario, build capabilities rather than predictions, and institutionalize monitoring so that uncertainty becomes a management input — not a reason for inaction. It’s the approach set out in this site’s guide, and the one I apply more broadly across transportation systems.

Background
Trained in civil engineering through the doctoral level, with a specialization in transportation, I began in university research and teaching before moving into practice. More than a dozen years in engineering and consulting followed, across several national contexts, on assignments ranging from transportation planning to intelligent transportation systems.
Now based in Montréal, I practise as a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

Three fields, one requirement
The assignments vary; the requirement stays the same: connecting technology to public purpose.
Automated mobility. From monitoring to readiness: strategic postures, governing emerging services, data governance, and alignment with transit — so that automation reinforces cities’ objectives instead of undermining them.
Intelligent transportation systems. Designing and evaluating the tools that make the network work — mobility management, data, connectivity — while keeping technology in its place: that of a means.
Road safety. Treating deaths and serious injuries as a systems problem rather than one of individual behaviour — the logic underlying Vision Zero–style efforts, which automation both serves and complicates.
